Educational Activities

Shapes and Colors:

Using one of Press Dough’s custom cookie cutters, mix different primary food colors in little cups of frosting to demonstrate the changes in colors (i.e. Yellow + Blue = Green). Decorate four different shapes (circle, square, triangle, and star) with instructed colors of frosting. Let children enjoy choosing their own color of sprinkle to
finish off the lesson.

“Seek-n-Hide” Cookie Fun (direction following):

Using one of Press Dough’s decorating kits, ask children to follow directions carefully. Note: If desired, separate children into teams.

  1. Begin with the shape request (i.e. Find the “pig” or “Team 1, find
the pig…Team 2, find the cow etc.).
  2. Next, request the color frosting (i.e. Find the white frosting).
  3. Finally, request the type of sprinkle (i.e. Find the Pink sugar and sprinkle 2 (or 3 or 4) pinches on the cookie). Do the same for the next three cookie cutout shapes so all children have one cookie of their own. At the end of the game, ask children to “hide” the cookie in their tummies.
Holiday Treat Cookie Decorating Party/Bake Sale
Valentine’s Day - Share a Cookie

Using the Press Dough heart cookie cutter, bake heart shaped cookie cutouts. While decorating, pair up the class in 2’s (or 3’s, if needed). Have one child frost the cookie and the other sprinkle. Then decorate a second cookie switching each child’s task so that everyone is able to frost and sprinkle. To add to the experience, encourage teamwork by showing how one child can hold the cookie while the other sprinkles the sugar (example).

Mommy and Me Tea

Using the Press Dough flower cutter and themed decorating kit, bake the shaped cookie cutouts. Invite all mothers for a Mommy and Me Tea to help their children decorate two cookie cutouts of their choice. A little song of “I’m a Little Teapot” rehearsed and sung by the class to their mothers along with a remembrance picture, and you have made a memory for your class that will last a lifetime.

Recipe: A Chocolate Chip Valentine

Using your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe (or a tub
(Nestle’s or Pillsbury)) from a wholesale store). Roll out
all the dough (using parchment paper-cookie dough in
between two sheets) on a baking sheet. Bake for about
30-35 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges.
After the chocolate chip cookie has cooled for only a few
minutes, but is still warm, press a heart shaped cookie cutter
(dipped in flour) into the cookie to create heart-shaped
chocolate chip cookies.

For an extra special touch: Melt dark chocolate in a double broiler and dip or drizzle the tops of the cookie. Add one of your child’s drawings or note in the package and you create a lasting impression.
